“Can everyone please just shut up? This isn’t helping us getting out of here!” I couldn’t help but yell, their voices were relentless.
“You’re right, bitching at each other isn’t going to get us anywhere.” John sighed.
“Why don’t we split up! Daniel, come with me!”
“Splitting up isn’t such a smart idea Taylor.” I tried to convince her, but I was sure my words fell on deaf ears.
“I’m with them on this Taylor, I’m sorry.” Daniel said.
“I’ll be fine! I’ll flag down the first car I see and come and get you guys.” She sighed and walked off into the fog. A few moments later she was right back where she started.
“What? I walked away from you!” Taylor yelled.
“Well, she’s lost in a world of her own.” Angela said as she swirled around her arm.
“No I’m fucking serious!”
Taylor bolted back into the fog and ran back into us. The only difference is she was covered in this thick watery substance. It looked like blood, but it was a deeper red, almost like tar. She freaked out and wiped it off as quickly as she could.
“What the fuck happened to you?” Daniel said as he went to her side.
“It won’t let us fucking leave! Now I’m covered in this blood gooey shit!” She cried.
“Deep breaths Taylor. Now let’s try something out, I want all of us to form a line together and walk towards the fog.” John informed us.
“What are we forming a kid’s line? Okay, okay I’m coming!” Angela said in a playful then rushed tone.
We went into the fog, then came out together. We had droplets of the red substance on us, but it was easy to brush off.
“I will admit, that is quite strange.” John said with a puzzled look.
“It seems like heading into that damn town might be our only option. That trail is impossible to navigate in this fog!” Angela said.
“She’s right.” Daniel agreed, and so did I.
“You’re leaving me? With them? Daniel?” Taylor latched onto him and begged.
“I’m sorry, but I agree with them on this one that splitting up isn’t a good idea.” Daniel said in a tone of disappointment, but reassurance that everything was going to be okay.
“In town there are people, a working phone, something that can get us help. That trail is too risky. We could get lost very easily in these woods. The fog is going to make it near to impossible for us to find our way through the trail.” John said assertively.
“Alright, into town we go.” I said with a hopeful spirit.
With that, we were down the road into town. With our flashlights and phones we followed the road lined with woods, street lamps, and the occasional derelict buildings. Suddenly there was footsteps coming from behind Angela and I.
