Those Ancient Hills (Pet Sematary Fanfic)- The Doctor’s Visit

I decided to go to see a GP after school today. There was a doctor on site so I thought ‘Eh, why not?’.  I called and set up an appointment on Monday. I came in on Friday around 3 pm and saw Dr Crowley. He was really nice, despite his dry humor and terrible bedside manner. The appointment was quick, painless, and first time visits are free, so it didn’t cost me a dime. The conversation at the doctor’s office keeps running through my mind. I’m not entirely sure why though.

“Ah! Alex! It’s good to see you, how are you doing today?” In came a middle-aged man, light blue eyes, dark brown hair with a receding hairline. He was about average height of a man his age, wore goofy, thick rimmed glasses, and fashioned light blue scrubs.

“I’m doing good! How are you?”

“I’m doing alright, thank you. My name is Doctor Crowley. I’m the practitioner on site today. How can I help you today?”

“Let’s see, I have been having some trouble sleeping for the past couple weeks. There’s this nightmare that I’ve been having that just won’t go away.”

“I can see in your file which was transferred by a Doctor Daniels that you have a history of having trouble sleeping and insomnia. Is this correct?”

“Yes this is correct.”

“From what I can also see is you have a history of trauma and family crises in the past as well as-?”

I cleared my throat and coughed out,”Yes.”

“I won’t go into any further details about those past events if you wish.”

“I say just do whatever feels right to you Doc. I just want to be able to get some sleep again.”

“I’ll tell you what” He sat on a stool with wheels and sat a few feet in front of me. “This is a common thing for a lot of people, especially college students to go through whenever they are dealing with big changes in their life such as moving, starting a new job, etc. Lack of sleep and new stressors can really have an impact on the human body and psyche believe it or not. Stress can manifest itself in different ways whether it be wanting to stress eat, have trouble sleeping, increased anxiety, you name it.”

“You don’t think I’m crazy?”

“Absolutely not!” He laughed. “Here’s what we’re going to do: first off I am going to refer you to a local psychiatrist, Doctor Shirley! He is also a dear family friend of mine and great doctor as well. He works a couple streets down from the campus. So you can just take this slip into the office and set yourself up with him.” He quickly wrote out a slip of paper and handed it to me.

“Doctor Shirley is much more experienced with psychopharmacology than I am. I’m just a General Practitioner and I want to make sure that you can get the best treatment you can get. I can help you with the other shit. Oh excuse my language!”

I chuckled a little bit and felt a sense of relief. “What should I do in the meantime until I set up an appointment?”

“In the meantime, I recommend using over the counter supplements. Have you tried Melatonin, Valerian Root, or Chamomile?”

“Melatonin, yes. The others, no.”

“You should be able to find them at any local market like Walmart, Target-“

“I work at Target so I can just get some from there.”

“Excellent!” He grabbed another piece of paper and wrote down some more scribbles and then handed it over to me. “Here is a list of supplements that I recommend for anyone with sleeping problems to use. And none of these would interfere with your current medications. Is there anything that I can do for you today?”

“No, I think that’s it! Thank you so much for your help Doctor Crowley.”

“It was good seeing you Alex! Here is a slip to give to the receptionist at the front desk. I would like to see you come back in a month just to see how you’re doing.”

“Oh okay! Thank you! Have a great day.”

“You too. Take care.”

I thought it was quite odd that he wanted to see me again in a month, but then again I’m no doctor. I stepped out the door and walked down the light green and brightly lit hallway, took a right, then found myself back at the receptionist’s desk. I gave her the paperwork, she set me up for an appointment next month, and I was about to walk out the glass door when I heard something.

“Allleeexxx….. Al—- ex… the soil- oil-“

“Huh, what?” I turned around and didn’t see anything. I didn’t hear anything after that, thankfully. I thought that maybe I overheard a conversation about something in the hallway. Soil? Where did that come from? Maybe I passed by some Botany students…

I shrugged it off and got into my car. As I pulled out of the spacious parking lot, I saw a dark gray cat run right behind my car. I jolted to a stop, looked in the rearview mirror, then saw the cat scurry off to a pine tree that was adjacent from my left bumper. The cat stared at me with dilated pupils engulfed in reflective light. It was absolutely terrifying! It made me jump for a second, then I regained my focus, pulled out of the parking lot, then drove to work. Everything from there was same old same old at la Target.

That night I got back home and one of my roommates was studying on the couch. Jeff, Danielle, and I ordered pizza and coke, stayed home, and watched Netflix until about 3 am. We watched The Office and Breaking Bad intermittently. It was a very good day! I completely forgot about what happened that day. And oh my god, that night was the best night of sleep I had in a long time. No bad dreams! It was like this for a week and then that damn dream started to come back. And when it came back, it was full force and then some. I will never forget how vile the dream was. It just felt so real! I don’t understand why I kept seeing this damn wooden cross over and over again. The thing is I could see everything like as if I was awake. I was kneeling down at this decrepid old cross. I was wearing black dress pants and black loafers, but the thing is I was honestly surprised I could tell what I was wearing because I was soaked with thick gray sludge and mud. There was a shovel off to the side laying in the grass. It was completely drenched in blood, handle to spade. I looked down and my hands, which were all scratched up and covered in dirt. Hearing the voices had to have been the worst part of it all. Majority of the voices that I heard in the dream still seemed to be inaudible, except for this one statement that I can’t get out of my head. It was a deep guttural voice that growled,”The s-soil-oil of a man’s heart-t is s-st-st-stonier”… goddammit!!! Every time I hear that saying in the dream, I scream myself awake and find myself completely drenched in sweat. It’s just so fucking creepy and I don’t know what the fuck it means! I still can’t get the scent of old and wet rotting mud out of my nostrils.

The timing of the bad dreams was impeccable because I had an appointment set to see the new shrink that Friday. Whenever I scream from a nightmare, it wakes up my roommates. Jeff and Danielle bust into my room every night to make sure I’m okay. I feel so bad for waking them up! They tell me not to feel bad, but I do. I’m really really hoping I can get some answers soon. This is absolutely ridiculous. I will share whatever answers I get from the doctor as soon as I get them.

Peace!

-Alex

Those Ancient Hills (Pet Sematary Fanfic Intro)

shutterstock_20337352

Hey guys, my name is Alexander Greevason (it’s a weird name, I know). I’m 21 and was born and raised in Michigan. There has been a lot of big changes that have been rumbling in my life lately and I wanted to create a blog. I love to write and I especially love to entertain people with my stories. I’m so happy that I finally found a platform to write on that seems legit. I don’t like most blogging websites like Reddit, Tumblr, Google+ shit or do I like anything that has a whiff of anything that could be interpreted as something that it isn’t. When I found WordPress, I was totally stoked!

Anyway, back to the big changes! I just recently got my Associates in Fine art and a minor in Sociology. It took me three years to get it, but I FINALLY got it. I worked 40 hours a week at a local bookstore-cafe which was nearby my parent’s house and even closer to the school. My parents were so supportive and encouraging. Life was good!

Earlier this year, I found out that I got into University of Treadlock, Maine. I was absolutely ecstatic. I threw a huge party the next day. They are one of the top ten schools in the US with an amazing Liberal Arts program. Within the Liberal Arts Program, Political Science, Sociology, and Psychology are the top three undergraduate programs at that school. There’s an 83% acceptance rate, 63% of school body is made up pf transfer students, and 97% of graduates end up going into the profession that they went to school for. I could keep going on and on about the great things this school has to offer, but there are a few factors outside of education that really makes me want to move to Maine.

Jeff and Danielle, my friends from childhood are going to the same school with me. We were basically friends at birth give or take. We went to the same elementary school, jr high school, high school, and community college. All of our families are tight nit. Jeff wanted to be an Engineer and Danielle either wanted to be a Teacher or a Veterinary Technician. I want to become an Author and an English professor at U of T.

The move for my friends and I was easy peasy. However, the move was more difficult for our families than it was for us. I think it was even harder for my parents to adjust because they didn’t understand why we were moving so far away. The truth is, even though my life had been good for the most part I really just wanted to move onto something bigger and better. My family and I hit some rough patches in the past, but that wasn’t going to get in the way of my dreams. Honestly I thought that maybe moving would make things easier for my family so they could focus on their own stuff and I could focus on mine.

Now, fast forward about 7 months, Jeff, Danielle, and I just found a condo not too far away from school. It had 3 bedrooms, 2 1/2 bathrooms, a massive kitchen and living room area, a basement, and an attic. We found it odd that it had both an attic and a basement, but we shrugged it off. This place was in really good shape! It was freshly painted inside and out, massive windows with an amazing view of the campus and a river that sat behind it from a hilltop. It also had a fridge, dishwasher, washer and dryer in the basement, and central air. It wasn’t furnished, but that was no problem for us. Everything was perfect.

This place was only 3k-4k a month, depending on if we had pets coming with us or not. Danielle brought her 13 year old cat, a male Calico named Mr. Jenkins (this cat was a major oddball, or should I say furball), Jeff brought a boxer-husky mix named Jack, and lastly I brought a black fighter fish named Bethoven and a rabbit named Galileo. Everything was going great for the past few weeks. Classes have been going well for us as well as our part time jobs. Danielle was a front desk associate at a local library, Jeff got a job at Target as a hardlines worker, and I worked at the Starbucks/Cafe within the same store.

I’ve been having some really bad dreams lately and I really can’t figure out why I’ve been having them. First they started out as flashes of black and white light, then I slowly started to see an old illegible and decrepid gravestone made of wood sitting on top of a pile of crabgrass. I’ve been waking up in a cold sweat, hearing whispering in both of my ears. This has been happening for the past week or so and I’m really not sure why. I hope I’m not going crazy…

If this continues, I’m going to go see a doctor and see if maybe I need an adjustment to my medications. Oh well! We shall see how these next few days go.

Peace out!

I Have an Obsession with the Paranormal (Especially Post Mortem pictures)

maxresdefault

January 25th 2018

Hey everyone! Jacob here! I’m sorry that I had to cut the last post short, but I had to take care of some stuff. I go to community college and work part time at the library on campus every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. My parents always push to get my studies done before anything else, and I have adopted that same mindset as well. I also wanted to apologize for the slight vagueness in my first post. I wanted to talk more about how I got into this stuff on my end. So like I stated in my previous posts, my parents were a huge influence on why I love the paranormal so much.

I think what started it all was my first experience with the paranormal when I was about 7 years old. Back then, my family and I lived in a house that was slightly smaller than the one we lived in and it was HAUNTED af, I seriously mean it was haunted. However, I didn’t really start to experience anything until I got a bit older. Anyway, when I was 7 years old, I was playing with my older brother Kevin who was about 10 years old at the time. I had two older sisters, 12 and 14 who were inside the house at the time. Kevin and I were out in our playground that our parents made for us when we first moved here. We were both playing in our sandbox, it was a fairly large one at that.

“I’m going to make a city that will reach the sky! And a rollercoaster in the middle of it.” I remember saying that vividly out of everything else. I really wanted to be an architect when I was little.

“You’re going to need a lot more sand than that to make skyscrapers that big.” My brother said as he was doing his version of a reanactment of Godzilla. Clumps of light tan sand sat in front of him as he used his favorite toy airplane to destroy the smaller clumps. I remember that he always wanted to be a pilot. 15 years later, he made that dream come true, but that’s a story for another day. We were having a good day in the hot midsummer’s sun.

“You know what would be cool to do one of these days?” Kevin asked me with some form of malintent… I say malintent because I had a feeling it was going to be a prank or some sort of trick. We loved to play pranks on one another.

“What?” I said

“Go check out the creek by our house without grown-ups! I heard that there is a church in the middle of the woods and its haunted!” He said excitedly.

“But we tried to do it one time and we both got grounded for a week without TV or video games! The nextdoor neighors caught us, remember?”

“So? We’re fast enough to sneak past mom and dad and our neighbors. We would be even faster if we snuck out of our rooms when mom and dad are asleep.”

“I don’t like where this is going.” I remember feeling my stomach churning at the thought. I was still afraid of the dark and there was something about this situation that just wasn’t right. I couldn’t put my finger on it, but I know I felt something.

“Come on man! Maybe we can get Joe from next door from us to go with us.” Joe Randall was our best friend since childhood. At the time he was 13 years old, a cubscout, and would regularly go on hikes in the backwoods with his dad and younger sister. We had so many good memories with Joe. Hell, even after we moved we still chat all the time and get into shenanigans.

“Maybe…” I said grasping at my chin, pretending that I had a beard.

“I already talked to him about it! We were going to do it tonight at 10 o’clock! Please?”

“Why do you want me to come and not one of our sisters?”

“Bleh! I don’t want them to come with us. They’re not as brave as you and I. Anyway, Joe has a camera so we can take all kinds of pictures. We will be the coolest kids in school for doing this. No one has done this before because everyone is a scaredy cat. So, what do ya say? Shake on it?” He put his hand right in my face. I sighed and shaked his hand.

“Alright deal”. As soon as I shook his palm I felt my stomach drop and my head was immediately all mixed up. I couldn’t go back on a handshake, it’s a personal brother to brother kind of thing. I will say one thing for sure… what happened that night imprinted itself in my memories forever….

More coming soon…
