The Grove- It’s So Cold

tree-tops-7

“Joey!”

The dismal blackness that once took my vision completely melted away. Bright light and a thin canopy of lofty trees popped into my vision. I sat up, rubbed my eyes, and scanned my surroundings. I was sitting in the middle of a large patch of grass which was surrounded by rows of granite and marble gravestones. Some where rounded, plaque like, square, cross-like, or even a statue of some sort. Some of the gravestones seemed more worn down than others. I stood up from the damp, dew covered grass and saw that I was wearing clothes that I have never worn before. Black jeans, tennis shoes, and a flannel with a white tank underneath.

It hit me… I was IN The Grove. The place that haunted me for over a decade. I was standing in the middle of The Grove in broad daylight. I was petrified; I couldn’t move, I couldn’t breathe.

“Joey! Joey! Joey…”

“Wh-wh-wha what? hm?”

“Joooooooooooeeeeeeeyyyyyyy….”

“Who… who’s there?”

“You know who I am, my pretty.”

“That voice…” There’s absolutely no way that it was her. The person who belonged to that voice was dead. Long, long dead.

“Mom?”

“Follow my vooooiiiiccceeeee…. I will guide you home.”

“What do you want from me?” I paused for a moment. “Hello?”

I got no response. Fuck! I don’t know where to go. I don’t know this part of the cemetery at all. I looked around and saw what looked to be a light in the shape of a candlelight flickering in the distance. I had no cell phone, no keys, no map, nothing. I was completely alone out here and I had to get out. I decided to go after the flickering light. I had absolutely nothing to lose.

Those Ancient Hills (Pet Sematary Fanfic)- Something Weird is Going on here

28e920f446395643596bbb8976230073

So, I woke up this morning at around 11:00 am-ish and found a note sitting on our dining room table. It said, “Jeff and I are going to be out for the day. We won’t be back until later on tonight. Have a nice day Alex! -Love, Dani.”

I thought that was kinda odd that they wrote a note instead of texting me. Then again, they probably did that so they wouldn’t wake me up by texting me so early in the morning. I haven’t been sleeping all that well lately… understandably. A week has passed since Jeff’s suicide attempt and he just finally got back home yesterday evening.

I put down the note and walked into the kitchen to grab a cup of coffee. As I was getting my Keurig ready, I heard scuttling right behind me. I wasn’t exactly sure where it came from, but I just shrugged and ignored it. I grab my hot cup of joe and sat at the dining room table, scrolling through my phone. I thankfully didn’t have to work until later on tonight, so it was nice to just have a chill day. For a split second, I heard something ‘clink’ against the ceramic pot of an aloe plant that sit right by the sliding glass door which was adjacent to the table. I got up to see what it was and again I saw nothing. Alex, come on. You’re losing it! Stress? Lack of sleep? Logically it can do a number on ya. I thought to myself. I decided that maybe going back to bed for a bit and then freshening up with a hot shower would be good. I put my coffee away in the fridge for later, closed the fridge door, and was met with fire engine red glowing lights floating in front of my eyes. I jumped backwards and covered my eyes. My heart was racing, my legs were shaking, and I was ready to run. I took a moment to rub my eyes and then opened them. The evil red eyes were gone. Yeah… it’s time for bed.

“Allllllleeeeeeexxxxxxx”, I jumped out of my skin from fear when I heard a voice calling out my name. My god it sounded like long old lady’s nails on a dusty chalkboard. I turned around and saw massive, muddy dog paw prints that led straight to my room. A horrible pungent smell possessed my nostrils and it took everything within me not to throw up. It was putrid… sour… wet… rotten… it smelled like pure death. It was a smell I smelled once before… I held my shirt up to my nose and followed the tracks that led to my room. What I saw will never be erased from my memory. Jeff and Danielle were both on my bed. They were stripped down to their underwear, kissing, and making all sorts of demonic noises. They were completely drenched in thick, tar-like mud and syrupy crimson red blood. Pieces of flesh, hair, and small twigs and leaves hung off from their hair. The whole bed was covered in that putrid tar-like mud, blood, and leaves. And that’s not even the scariest part. The scariest part is the thing that was sitting on top of my pillows. It was a dog like creature with glowing red eyes, IDENTICAL to the red eyes I saw in the kitchen.

“Alex… welcome to our brand new family.” Danielle said in the most malevolent voice I have ever heard in my life.

When she smiled, her teeth were black, grey, and yellow from rot. She began to laugh maniacally and I started to feel extremely lightheaded.

“Sick ’em Jack.” Jeff growled.

The dog like figure stood up and behold… it WAS Jack, but not the Jack that we all once knew. His once silky smooth fur was now covered in the tar-like mud and old crusted over blood. The injuries on his neck, back, and spine were still visible. When he stood, his spine wasn’t aligned at all and his neck was still cut open, slowing dripping blood onto the carpet. He opened his mouth and began to viciously snarl at me. His teeth were covered in blood and old drool. This can’t be happening! Dear Christ almighty this can’t be happening!

“But it is.” Danielle stopped laughing and stared straight into my eyes. It was the stare from someone who wanted you dead.

The demonic dog jumped at my neck and knocked me to the ground. I jumped upwards to find myself in my own bed… safe and sound. I stumbled into the bathroom and threw up in the toilet. I had to sit there for a couple minutes until the nausea went away. I got up and looked at myself in the mirror. I look like absolute shit. My eyes were bloodshot, my skin was as pale as paper, and I was fucking shivering. I took my temperature and it was 101.5. I must’ve caught the flu or something. That does kinda explain the reason why I had that damn dream.

I walk into the kitchen, wearing sweats and went into the kitchen for some hot tea. Danielle and Jeff were both sitting at the table, having breakfast and scrolling through their phones. They were… normal. Jeff’s arms were still bandaged up from when he tried to commit suicide about a week ago. They both looked like as if nothing ever happened.

“Hey Alex, are you okay?” Dani asked

“You look like shit man. No offense.” Jeff looked up from his phone and looked at me.

“Nah man, it’s okay. I just woke up from a really bad dream, and I think I have the flu too.”

“Aw, I’m sorry Alex. Jeff and I were going to go hang out today. We were going to invite you to join us, but I take it that you’re staying home today…”

“Big time.” I said. I plopped down into a chair that was in the middle of Jeff and Danielle. I felt something soft snuggling up against my legs and it made me jump for a second; then I realized that it was only Mr. Jenkins, our lovely orangesicle furball.

“Hey, do you want us to take you to Urgent Care or something?”

“Nah, it’s okay.” I sipped on my hot tea. “I’m just going to call in tonight and if I’m not any better by tomorrow, then I’m going to go to the doctor.”

“Fair enough.” Jeff said as he continued to scroll through his phone, sipping away at some hot cocoa.

“I don’t mean to be rude guys, but I think I’m going to just go back to bed. I hope you guys have fun today.” I got up slowly and started to shuffle towards my bedroom. As I began to cross our living room, I saw a track of ash-like foot prints leading into Jeff’s bedroom. The footprints were in the shape of a dog’s pawprints. I was fully awake and lucid this time. What the hell is going on? I think I am losing it. I gotta go see my psych again.

Those Ancient Hills (Pet Sematary FanFic)- Something Bad happened… then Something Good Happened…

tumblr_o92zocjfST1ql10zwo1_500

Sunday morning rolled along and Jeff still hasn’t made a decision on what to do in regards to Jack. I’m really starting to worry about his state of mind. He didn’t talk to anyone on Sunday, nor did he for the past week. If we asked him questions, he’d just nod or shake his head.

On Tuesday he finally decided to have Jack buried in the local Pet Cemetery which was a couple miles away from the Vet. Eternal Rest Pet Cemetery. It wasn’t very big compared to a regular cemetery, at least not that I could tell. I used to drive by it going to work or school, but now because of everything that happened, I take another route to work and school. We went with Jeff to be with him when they were to bury Jack. I never realised that there was such a thing as this, but with enough money I guess you can pull anything off. Jeff’s parents covered the expenses of the dog’s funeral, or whatever you call it. When Jack’s coffin was lowered into the ground, Jeff fell to his knees and had a massive breakdown. He tried to get into the hole where the coffin was being lowered into, but Danielle and I pulled him up to his knees and eventually his feet. I have absolutely no idea what his intentions were, but damn it was scary. It frightened me to see one of  my best friends go completely ballistic to the point of no return.

It’s currently Tuesday and he still hasn’t talked to anyone, not even Danielle. You know, for years Danielle and Jeff had feelings for one another, but were always afraid of expressing them to each other. How do I know this you might ask, well Danielle and Jeff spent quite a bit of time talking to me about both of their troubles as well as their romantic fantasies. They have almost kissed a couple of times, but were always too afraid of ruining what they had as friends. The thing is, no matter how hard things got for Jeff, he would always go to Danielle. However, Jeff has not confided in Danielle like how he normally would. She remained as patient as she could, but it devoured her from the inside. She felt so helpless and to be honest, I did too.

This morning, Wednesday morning, I woke up to a zombie-like Jeff walking through the house aimlessly. He shuffled in circles and seemed stiff as a board. His dark eyes were lifeless, his skin was white paper pale, and his suave black hair was disheveled. He was still wearing the same clothes from yesterday. Suit, tie, and dress pants. He looked like someone who was either extremely high or is just waking up from a bad hangover. He passed by me in the kitchen and I saw he had three fresh cuts on his neck. I grabbed him by his left wrist and stopped him in his tracks.

“Hey! Jeff! What the hell did you do to your neck??”

“Cut myself.”

I took a closer look on his neck, then his left hand that I was hanging onto for dear life. I saw dried blood on the cuff of his sleeve. I pulled up his sleeve and saw dozens and dozens of cuts up and down his left arm. They were still fresh cuts with blood trickling down from his arm to the floor. I looked at him in shock and felt my heart sink and shatter to pieces. Eyes started to well up in my eyes.

“I need help Alex.” He looked at me with his empty eyes. “I want to die and be buried to my dog. I want to die and be buried with all of my loved ones who died from the fire on that Christmas morning. I just want to die. I don’t want to live anymore. I don’t want to burden Danielle and y-” Jeff’s eyes started to roll into the back of his head and I grabbed him before he fell onto the dark wooded floor. Jeff is about 5 inches taller than me and weighs more than I do, but I still managed to hold him up with the best of my ability.

“No, no, no, no, no! Jeff, stay with me.” I patted his face constantly until he jolted out of it. “You’re not going to die! You’re not going to die! We’re going to get you some help Jeff.” I sat Jeff down on the couch and I immediately pulled my phone out and called 911. Jeff was taken to the Crestlake Hospital which was about 30 minutes from our house. His parents were called and they came to the hospital within a few hours. Jeff was admitted to the hospital (which in all actuality kind of looked like a hotel).

I finally have some good news; something that has helped take the edge off. I didn’t want to mention this so soon because of what happened today, but I really thought that maybe bringing some positivity to this site just might help. Anyway, I asked a girl from one of my classes out on Monday and she said yes! She and I really hit it off on the first day of our Sociology 110 class. We study together, text each other non-stop, and now I just finally gathered up enough courage to finally ask her out. We’re going to go to the cafe that’s not too far away from my house this Friday. Neither one of us have to work then which was awesome. I feel like the luckiest guy in the world! It has been forever since I have been with anyone.

And also more good news, from what I heard from Danielle, Jeff and Danielle are FINALLY together. Thank fucking god! Danielle didn’t give me a whole lot of details, but from what she told me, Danielle sat on his hospital bed, cried and told Jeff how much she meant to him, including how she felt. Jeff finally broke his silence about how he felt and made a promise not to ever do what he did again. About 10 minutes later, the nurse and Jeff’s parents came in and found both of them making out, laying on top of one another. She said believe it or not, his parents seemed relieved to see those two together. Unfortunately it was late and past visiting hours so Danielle had to leave and come back home.

When she came home I gave Danielle a big hug and congratulated her. She seemed absolutely exhausted. Her brown hair was disheveled, her blue eyes barely sayed open, and she was almost out of breath.

“Thank you so much for your help Alex. You’re a true hero for saving Jeff’s life. I think Jeff is in a better state of mind now. At least from what I can tell from what happened earlier.” Danielle gave an awkward laugh. “I think I’m going to go to bed now. I know its only 9:00, but I’m so ready to pass out.”

“I’m going to bed too Dani, no worries. Today was just pure chaos and insanity.” I gave out a small sigh.

“Right.” with that we were both off to bed.

It’s currently 3:00 am and I can’t sleep. My mind is just all over the place. I really hope to god that those two being together will help Jeff get through this mourning process with Jack. Also, is it wrong for me to post something like this on my blog? Is it wrong to open a new chapter in my life as my friend is so unstable that he almost committed suicide? I mean, Jeff and Danielle have opened a new chapter in their lives too, but at this point, I really don’t know what is right or wrong anymore. What I do know is I am starting to hear Pascow’s voice as well as the voices of others within my head. I’m going to get myself checked out, just a sanity check, you know? I’m not crazy. I know I’m not crazy. This whole event was traumatizing for everyone. I mean, thankfully I’m in one piece, but sometimes I feel like Pascow seems to suggest otherwise. I’m going to do the best I can and ignore him. That’s all you can do, right?

Those Ancient Hills (Pet Sematary Fanfiction)-> Tribute to Jack (written by Jeff)

Heya everyone. I know Alex normally writes on here, but he let me write a personal tribute to Jack on his page. I didn’t just want to post it on Facebook; I wanted to post it some place where everyone could see it. I don’t have a ton of Facebook friends, nor a lot of followers on Twitter or Insta. I know that a lot of friends of mine like to look at Alex’s site, so I thought hell why not. So, I wrote a poem for my dear pet Jack as well as what the future is going to hold.

“Goodbye my dear friend;

It was too soon for your life to come to an end.

You meant the world, everything to me;

You saved my family numerous times, don’t you see?

From a midnight robbery to a deadly forest fire;

You gave me everything, even my truest heart’s desire.

I wouldn’t be here without you;

I wish you could see it, because it’s true.

I will see you once again dear Jack;

I will find a way to bring you back.”

I know it sounds a little dark, but this was the only way I knew how to pay tribute to Jack. I would do ANYTHING and I mean ANYTHING to get Jack back. I’d give up my soul to the devil if that was even possible. My life has come to a standstill since what happened earlier today. I said so many things that I know I shouldn’t have. I want to thank you all for the support that everyone has given me within the past few hours. I feel better after writing this whole thing out for all to see.

I will say this right here and right now though, DO NOT ever let your pet off the lease in a park unless if it has a fenced area, and two is to never open your window when you have your dog in the backseat.

(P.S. if you know of ANY kind of way that I can reconnect with Jack, or maybe even gain some closure, please feel free to let me know on my Twitter/Facebook which is JefferJack.)

Those Ancient Hills (Pet Sematary Fanfic) Calm Before the Storm Met with Tragedy (WARNING explicit content)

Okay guys, this post is going to be a bit longer than usual and I might have to split this into a few different parts today. But, holy shit I have a lot of stuff to share. I think those people who enjoy the macabre and other horrors just might like this. In the most recent post, I had said that I encountered a few things in my waking life that had been in my dreams, before I get to that first, there is a few things I need to share. The reason why I need to share these things first is because they are heavily involved with what has been going on.

ALSO: WARNING to those who might be reading this. Parts of this entry includes explicit material that may not be suitable for others. Read at your own risk.

First off, thankfully the nightmares subsided and I had thoughts of maybe cancelling or rescheduling the appointment with my new doctor because of things getting better. I wasn’t really getting anymore nightmares, I was still doing good in school, and I made some new friends in my classes. However, I realized that after what happened this weekend that maybe it was best for me to still see my doctor.

Friday came around and neither one of us had to work! It was pretty sick. Usually that never happens with Jeff and I because of Target’s hours fluctuating. Thankfully, Danielle works only weekdays, so she had weekends off, which made this weekend the best one to do something. I think with the back to school jam being over with it being mid September and all, things were starting to slow down. So Danielle, Jeff, and I decided that maybe we should go do something fun this weekend. Jeff had one of his classmates of a small town called Firtip with an old-fashioned shopping square that sat in the middle of the town. Not too far away from the town sat a small lake called Saltlick and a park that overlooked it. It was about an hour and a half away. Jeff said that the town square as well as the park by the lake was dog friendly, so we decided to take Jack with us. Nothing could possibly go wrong, right?

Saturday rolls by and we head out to Firtip at 8:30 sharp (Danielle’s idea, not mine. I hate getting up early). Regardless, we made it there at around 10 and had in my opinion, one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. We went to a restaurant called Bolly’s and oh. my. god. they have the BEST pancakes in the universe. And thankfully they allowed dogs so we were able to take Jack in with us. That boxer in Jack can sometimes make him a bit naughty, but he is (was) a good dog. Despite the fact that Jack was 10 years old, he still acted like a puppy at times. He begged for food from time to time and Jeff had a habit of sneaking a bit of bacon here and there. Jeff spoiled Jack.

After we go to the restaurant, we went to the bookstore, the antique shop, the pet store, and a number of boutiques that were in the square. Everything from the books to clothes and other antiques just blew my mind. I felt like I was living under a rock for so many years. I saw all kinds of stuff that I knew my mom, dad, and little sister would love. Not to mention, we loaded up on sugar at the local ice cream shop.

Next, we headed to the park right next to the lake. There was a small pier and dock that was set for people who wanted to boat or fish on the lake. The transition of summer to fall was so surreal. The mixture of green to fall hues being reflected off by the water caught my eye. This place was absolutely gorgeous. There were a few picnic areas that lined the shore of the lake. A small child, Doberman puppy, and two young parents played frisbee with one anonther; an older woman wearing blue neon clothing ran on a path through the park, and a middle aged couple sat at a picnic table that sat closest to the pier, drawing the lake with watercolors. As we stepped out, Jeff grabbed a blue frisbee, a chuck it toy, and a collapsable water bowl. We walked past the couple painting the lake and went off to a clearing that was surrounded by lots of greenery.

So all three of us and Jack played with the frisbee and the chuck it toy for about an hour or so. It felt so good just to get outside and feel the cool autumn breeze flow around us. It was refreshing. Suddenly, Jack stopped in his track and stared straight into the trees. Jack started to bark and then he took off.

2-wooden-dock-on-autumn-lake-elena-elisseeva

“Hey! Jack! Come back here!”

“Wait for us man!” Danielle and I took off after Jeff.

We chased after Jack for a good ten minutes or so. His barking only grew louder the longer we were darting through the trees. We could not see nor hear whatever it was that Jack was chasing. What was even weirder was that Jack almost never chased after anything. Not even bunnies or squirrels that would run around in our backyard. All three of us burst through a section of long grass and we were able to see Jack trying to scratch at a burrow that sat underneath a pile of rocks. He was foaming at the mouth and snarling viciously at what appeared to be small black paws from some sort of animal.

“Jack! No! Stop it Jack! Leave it!” Jeff ran after towards Jack and was able to pull him back by the collar. A massive black ball of fur jumped at Jack, scratched his eye and bit into his throat. It was what looked like a very old and injured dog of some sort. Danielle ran up to Jack and tried to grab his collar, but Jack bit the mangy dog straight into the skull and eye sockets, killing it instantly. Blood and foam ran down Jack’s mouth and he was covered in wet dirt and scratches. Jeff let go of Jack and kicked the dead dog numerous times. He picked up the dog’s carcass and threw it at the rocks. This wasn’t unlike Jeff, for he has lost his temper with people or things who have ever attempted to harm a single hair on that dog’s head. Jeff loved his family and friends, and this dog was his world. But Jesus Christ this was really really bad timing.

“Jeff, man stop it! We need to get Jack to the vet asap!” Jeff looked back at me without saying a single word, picked up Jack, and ran through the trees. Danielle and I chased after Jeff, got back to my car, and we sped off to find the nearest vet. The closest vet was 15 minutes away from the town square, and unfortunately we were at least 30 minutes away from the town square.

Jeff was in the backseat of my car and held onto Jack tight. Every so often, Jack would moan or whine in pain. Jeff used a towel and wrapped Jack’s neck as well as washing Jack’s eye. He put bottled water in the top cap and gently washed Jack’s eye.

“Alex, Danielle, I’m not sure if Jack is going to make it. He seems like he’s getting weaker.”

“Don’t worry man, we’re almost there!” God I really wished that was true, but that’s all I could really say in this situation.

“Hey, can you open one of the back windows a little bit so we can get some fresh air?” I did just that without hesitation. Jack jumped up and started to attempt to jump out the window. Jeff grabbed Jack who was half in and out of the window. Danielle screamed and I immediately pulled over. Jack slipped through the opening in the window and fell onto the asphalt. A loud snap was heard and then one final yelp. Jeff and Danielle rushed to the side of the road and pulled Jack back into the car.

“Oh my god Alex! Look at what you’ve done!” Jeff screamed at me. I looked back and Jeff and saw that Jack was lying completely limp. Unresponsive.

“Knock it off Jeff! It wasn’t Alex’s fault!”

Everyone went dead silent… a few minutes passed and we finally got to the emergency vet. Danielle, Jeff, a receptionist, and the vet carried Jack into one of the rooms and immediately put in an IV in his left arm and started CPR.

“Come on buddy. You can do this. Hang in there. You’ll make it.” Jeff kept saying that to Jack over and over, despite the fact that he was barely responsive to every possible form of stimuli.

After 25 minutes on the IV, CPR, and breath support… Jack was gone. Neither one of us could believe it. He passed away from the bite in his neck as well as snapping his spine when he jumped out of the car window. How is it that one bad event leading to another could lead to such a horrific death of an innocent dog? It just wasn’t right and it just wasn’t fair at all. Jeff was completely torn up about Jack passing away. We sat in the vet’s office for what felt like centuries. Jeff cried himself hoarse and refused to leave Jack’s side. I walked up to Jeff and put my arm around his shoulder.

“Al-alex, I’m really really sorry for what I said earlier… I-” He looked up at me. His eyes were completely bloodshot and it seemed that the life was drained from his face.

“It’s alright man. I understand.”

“No Alex, it’s not alright. Not with everything that you have been through before. I was out of line.”

“I know. But I still understand.”

Jeff decided to have Jack transported from the emergency vet clinic to the vet clinic in town. It was going to take up to 24 hours for Jack to be transported, but Jeff didn’t care. He needed time to decide on how to best handle the situation with Jack. The folks at the emergency vet were very kind about the situation and didn’t charge Jeff a single dime.

We got back home at around 6-7ish. No one talked for the rest of the drive back home, nor did anyone say a single word when we got back home. It was like this heaviness was put upon our shoulders when we walked into the door. Jack’s things sat in the living room and kitchen area. It was very haunting just to see those items sitting around. Jeff walked into his room, shut the door, and locked it. He stayed in there for the whole night without saying a single word. Danielle and I sat on our L-shaped couch and tried to watch Netflix. It just didn’t work. We decided to just go off to bed early instead. Truth be told is that we were all dead beat tired from today. How could such a wonderful day turn into one of the worst days of our lives within a matter of minutes, if not seconds?

The horror of the situation only continued to get worse. In the dead of night, I find myself to be wide awake and I see this face staring right at me. Jack, or this thing that looked like Jack was standing on top of me on my bed. Blood and saliva dripped from his jowels onto my sheets and skin. It was colder than ice. The thing opened it’s mouth and gave out a massive growl. The smell of death and decay was so overpowering that it caused me lean to my left and throw up onto the floor. I looked back up from my bed and saw that the thing was gone. The smell was still there even after the monstrocity disappeared.

tumblr_n6zxdpDxOs1rlrai0o1_500

How was that even possible? Jack is dead! This can’t be possible. It had to have been a dream. Guys, the scary part about this situation is this isn’t even HALF of what transpired this weekend…

Those Ancient Hills (Pet Sematary Fanfic)- Intriguing Shrink’s Visit

470674388

Holy crap guys! Before I get into the post, I want to say thank you so so so much for all of the support you have been giving to me. Your comments really do mean a lot to me. I never expected to have close to 5,000 people following me. It’s absolutely insane!

Anyway, the doctor’s visit… yeah… it sure was interesting. I’m not sure if I’m feeling 100% better after last night, but I think I managed to get some answers on what the hell is going on with me.

So I walked into his office, which is within a larger medical building that is interconnected with one of the local hospitals, Cunningway Hospital to be exact. It had weird vibes to it, but I think part of it had to do with me being so nervous! I asked Jeff and Danielle to come in with me so they could give some insight to the doctor on what I have been acting like when I sleep. I had to show up about 30 minutes early so I could fill out some paperwork. The office itself was very nice. It had light mocha colored walls, red and dark brown furniture, a couple fish tanks on each side of the waiting room, a light brown hardwood floor with a large round rug over the top of it, and soft classic music playing in the background. The front desk was at the middle of the room with one brown haired, blue eyed girl sitting at the desk. She was quite friendly! I could see other receptionists and nurses walking around the room, printing stuff, going through papers, working on computers, you know, basic doctor office stuff.

“Hello Alex! How are you doing today?” A tall, svelt, older gentleman walked through the door and waved hello to me. He had salt and pepper hair, a green dress shirt, black shoes, and tie, deep blue eyes and lightly tanned skin.

“I’m doing okay I guess.”

“Hm. Just okay?” I nodded then looked down at my feet. “My name is Doctor Shirley, but you can call me Steve.” He smiled sweetly and stuck out his hand to shake it. He had a firm, but not too harsh of a handshake. “So I hear that you have been getting some pretty nasty nightmares, is that right?”

“Yes.” I felt so nervous, I wanted to throw up. My stomach was churning and my hands were cold and clammy. I looked down at my feet a lot. ‘Thank god they’re not covered in mud’ I thought to myself.

“There’s nothing for you to be nervous about Alex! I’m a pretty harmless guy. I have worked with teens and young adults for over 35 years. I promise that there is nothing to worry about. Now, who are these two who have joined you today? Are they your friends?”

“Yes they are. This is Danielle and Jeff.” Both of them stuck out their hands and shook the doctor’s hand. “They’re just here for moral support, I guess you can say.”

“Have they signed our medical consent forms yet?”

“Yes they have.”

“Good good! Anyway, I have a few basic questions that I need you to answer for me. These are primarily ‘yes’ and ‘no’ questions. I just need to gather a little bit more information about you before we can move forward. Is that okay?”

“Oh yeah that’s fine with me.” The nervousness started to fade just a teeny tiny bit. I found that I was starting to regain a sense of control.

“Alrighty then, let’s begin!” The doctor took out a clipboard and a black pen which had a white feather glued on it. I thought it was quite clever. Going through all of these questions just tired me out. Don’t ask me why, they just did.

“It definitely sounds like you had a bit of a troubling past, is that right?”

“Yeah… I have. During all the crap that happened back then, I really felt like as though there was a point in time where my family wanted nothing to do with me. Though during those hard times I had the support of my two best buds. I don’t know where I would be without them.”

“Have you had any counseling in the past Alex?”

“Yes of course.”

“Is it okay for me to refer you to a local MFT?”

“Yeah, sure. Any help that you can give would be great.”

“Alrighty then! I will be referring you to a Dr. Creed. He is one of my trusted colleagues and a friend of the family since I was little.” My stomach dropped to the floor as soon as that name came up. My hands began to sweat again and I could feel myself get shaky. Doctor Creed… Creed was one of the names that ghost Pascow mentioned… Goddammit Alex get yourself together! It’s just a coincidence.

“At the end of the day Alex, it is your health that matters the most. Don’t let your past get in the way of what you want to do in the future. You are a very young, healthy, and intelligent young man with a positive future ahead of you. I can promise you that you will get through this and I will do everything in my power to help you.”

“Thank you so much for your help today Dr- I mean Steve.”

“Now Alex, I would like to meet up with you soon just to make sure that everything is going okay. Would week after next be okay with you?”

“Yeah, that’s fine.”

“Your friends can come too if you want.”

“I think I’m going to be going alone this time, no offense guys.” I felt bad for saying no to Danielle and Jeff. We have all been in the same classes, if not at least in one of our classes together throughout our whole lives. We were together almost all the time and were there for one another no matter what was going on. Like for example, when Danielle’s dad was in the hospital due to a heart attack during high school, we dropped everything we were during and were there for Danielle until her dad got out of the hospital.

“Nah, you’re good man. We totally understand.” Jeff gave a thumbs up and Danielle nodded in agreement. I gave out a sigh of relief knowing that I didn’t hurt their feelings.

“In the meantime Alex I want you to continue to take your medications normally. The only thing I would suggest for now before we visit again is to start to use more holisitcal approaches to your nightmares. Things such as Essential Oil diffusers, playing white noise in the background, ASMR, and other forms of stress releiving tactics could really be of use. I also advise for you to back off of caffeine as much as you can.”

“Okay, sounds good.” Some of the things he brought up were things that I have never heard of or even tried. It was worth a shot!

“Alrighty then! I’ll have you take these papers up to the front desk and they will help you set up another appointment soon. I will see you in about two weeks.”

“Thank you! I’ll see you in a couple of weeks.”

I walked out the door, did my thing at the front desk, and all three of us headed out. As I walked out the front door of the doctor’s office, I took a deep breath, inhaling the cool autumn breeze, and exhaled slowly.

“How are you feeling Alex?” Jeff asked.

“Much better actually! I really like this doctor. Maybe even more than Dr. Daniels.”

“I’m not sure man, he seemed kinda off to me.” Danielle said. Both Jeff and I looked back at her in shock.

“What makes you say that Dani?” I was really taken aback by this. Danielle seldom talked about people like this. The only time she did was when something was really off. She’s really good at picking up on stuff like that.

“It’s just a feeling I guess. But, if he’s a good help to you Alex, then I have no right to say that.”

After the doctor’s visit, Jeff, Danielle, and I went out to a local cafe instead of Starbucks. It was called Vanilla Bean. It was a very sick cafe that was open from 8 am to 10 pm. It sat alongside the river and was about 15 minutes away from our house and around 20 minutes away from school. They served breakfast, lunch, and dinner at all times of the day. They were like an upscale version of Denny’s or Ihop. It was a hotspot for college students in the area for sure. We had coffee, brunch, and a whole lot of english rolls. They have the BEST rolls in the world.

The rest of the day went pretty well. No weird voices, no hallucinations, absolutely nothing! I took my medications normally and started doing what the doctor suggested for me to do. I got the diffuser and stuff from work after going to the Vanilla Bean. I set up my room with everything I needed and it was awesome. What was even better was that the nightmares stopped for a couple weeks. I was finally able to get some solid sleep and I didn’t feel so worn out during the day anymore. Every once in awhile I would see a fuzzy image of a wooden cross in a patch of crabgrass, but then the imagery would fade off into what I would consider to be a normal dream.

Except for last night. It was more than just a nightmare. This was a new reality for us all and there is no way out. The wooden cross, the rows of dead people, and even Pascow appeared once again, and I was fully awake.

Nameless Dreamer- Saying Goodbye to the Old World

bubble1

“Let’s go!” Before the girl could speak, the orb swiftly picked up the girl and flung her over the endless waterfall. She looked down at the infinite bottom below her that never seemed to end. The Indigo orb catches her by her shoulders and hovers with her above one of the floating pieces of rock. The orb placed her down onto the rock and floated by her face. The orb appeared to have new features that it didn’t have before. Larger wings of gold and a ring of light floating above it.

“Spirit orb… is that a halo above your head?”

“You may call it that if you wish.”

“What else would it be?”

“Now that is a lesson for another day!”

“And… your wings are bigger. Much bigger than they were before.”

“Yes! That they are. Like you, I am still growing. We never stop growing. None of us do.”

“Well, what is it that I’m growing?” The girl feels her shoulder blades towards the lumps on her back and have found that they are even bigger than they were before. They were both about 6 inches in length and had a soft, fuzzy web like texture to them. “What is this??”

“You’re growing into the divine soul that you’re meant to illuminate unto us all.”

“Say what?” The girl tilts her head to the side in response to the orb’s statement.

“In other words, you’re right where you need to be. But first, there is one thing that you must do before moving forward.” The orb gently taps the girl’s nose.

“What is that?” The orb circled around her head and darted off.

“This way!”

“Are you insane??? I can’t reach these floating island thingys!”

“Yes you can! Just jump!” With that the girl looked upwards to the smaller floating boulders that were to her left. With all her might, she crouched down to her ankles and jumped onto the next floating boulder. The sense of gravity seemed to be nearing towards non-existant. She hovered high above the boulder before slowy landing on top of it. Whoa! That was freaky!

“Be careful dear girl. The gravity here is far different from the gravity that you have been acustomed to. Now, let’s get going!” The orb continued to dart off to the skies. It weaved and wobbed around boulders, trees, and other creatures and oddities that existed in this strange place. The girl was not too behind the Indigo Orb. She miraculously kept close to the orb. Her movements weren’t weighed down by anything and she traveled faster than the fastest creature known to man. But how was this possible for a young girl? The orb and girl stop upon a crescent shaped boulder that was high up in the lavender skies. There was a fairly large bubble floating at the middle of the boulder. “This is it.”

“What is this?” The girl took a close look and saw something startled her, causing her fall to backwards onto the grassy boulder. Her mouth was agape at what she saw. What she saw was flashes of her everyday life that she once knew. Her place of work, her home, her college, her friends, and her family. Old memories of laughter, tears, loss, celebrations, and everything inbetween rotated within the bubble.

In a soft, but somber voice, the orb said, “It is time to let this go.” Those words made the girl’s stomach drop lower than ever before. Her heart started to feel heavy and it hurt, greatly.

“What do you mean by let this go spirit orb?”

“It’s time to let this go.”

“You don’t mean… pop it, do you?” She looked back at the orb and then at the orb. The girl’s heart began to race and she felt an uncontrollable sense of panic. It ran through her body like watercolor paint within a fresh drop of water.

“No. I won’t do it!” With that she fell onto the ground in pure agony. This was far worse than the pain she felt on the solid surface of the water in the beginning. The pain was throbbing pins and needles that permeated through her entire being. It paralyzed her to the ground and she could not move.

“If you do not let it go, the pain within your body and soul will only get worse.”

“But everything I know and love will go away! And I don’t want it to go away!” She cried harder than any time she has cried in her entire existence. It was as deep as her pain, if not deeper. A deep soul cry that echoed through the stars. She couldn’t explain where this feeling was coming from and why, but what she did know was this pain came from somewhere.

“Come now, that is far from the truth! Just because you let go of something, doesn’t mean that it is gone forever.”

“Will I die if I do this? Will I forget everything?” All of the faces of people she loved dearly pressed their faces against the inside of the bubble, except for one that was especially significant to her. However, she couldn’t quite remember who. At the time it just truly didn’t matter anymore.

“No you will not. I will help you up so you can pierce this bubble.” The orb lifted the pain from the girl’s body and she was finally able to rise to her feet. Tears rolled down her warm tender cheeks and every part of her body was stiff and achy. She looked at the bubble again and saw that the inside of it turned cloudy and gray. Screaming and crying eminated from the bubble, begging the girl not to touch it. “All you need to do is touch it and it will burst. It will be a bit overwhelming, possibly scary when you do it, but I can assure you that the feeling will be gone within a few moments.”

“Okay.” The girl took a deep breath and walked up to the bubble. The screams and cries got louder, nearly ear shattering loud. The girl took another deep breath, closed her eyes, then touched the bubble with her right hand. A massive ‘NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO’ eminated from the bubble as it burst. A massive wave of wind from the bubble knocked the girl to her knees. Silence replaced the screams. The bubble was gone, and so was everything that flashed before her eyes. The girl’s mind went completely blank. She covered her face with her hands and cried once more. The orb floated to her face and surrounded her body with light.

“It will be alright dear girl. It’s over.” The light surrounded the girl turned into a bubble of infinite light. The light made her feel like she was being carressed by the softest being that ever existed. With each tear that dropped, an ounce of pain dissipated from her body. However, she didn’t feel a sense of relief for several minutes until something cold and wet nudged at her hands. It kept nudging at her hands until the girl removed her hands from her face. A familiar friendly face appeared in front of her eyes.

“Feather!!!!!!” She tightly grabbed onto the glowing white puppy and held on for dear life. “I thought that you were gone!” She backed away at an arm’s length to get a closer look at her beloved friend. The puppy tilted his head and smiled. She hugged the puppy again and gave her a kiss on the cheek. The puppy began to relentlessly lick her face until the tears were gone. “So, it’s not over?”

“It has only just begun dear girl. And the best part is, you have a friendly face to join you on this new journey.”
